Metapost: Long hiatus ending soon
OK, first I was too stressed about the election to write funny things about the comics. Then I was too depressed about the results to write funny things about the comics.
I’m somewhat over it now, so there will be a rash of new comics coming tonight. If you want to know how I feel about the election, click here. Feel free to heatedly agree or disagree with me, but I ask that you keep all political diatribe comments attached to this post. Any others will be removed by me at my arbitrary whim.

Wonderful post! I was much less eloquent about the election and I still got a bit of nya-nya-nya replies. Another blogger trapped in the wrong color state is downright ticked and he’s getting hate mail over what he wrote.

Not so fast! Who gets custody of Bill Clinton?

While Gav (http://www.nukees.com/d/20041103.html) said it more succinctly you said it better.

The one thing we in the Blue sections of the country would really miss out on though is the FOOD!!
There’s a significant lack of farmland in the Blue states to feed all of us in the big urban centers…I hope those people in the Red are willing to share, but I’m not too confident.

True, though we could solve that problem by merging with Canada – they’ve got plenty of grain for us, and decent healthcare to boot. And since we get to keep California, we won’t even have to suffer from scurvy. Sweet!

Josh,
I hope time has healed at least some of your wounds — as a strong Bush supporter (who voted for both Clinton and Gore, so I’m not some right-wing fanatic) I still enjoy your site tremendously.
It’s always been amusing to me that today’s liberals have a terrific sense of humor about everything but themselves. Even when I was a long-haired draft dodging civil rights marcher (back when protests actually meant something rather than simply a sop to the 30 second TV anchor spot) I knew a lot of my behavior was ridiculous and willing to laugh at myself. Indeed, my favorite bumper sticker back then was “nuke the whales”.
Nowadays there is so little self-deprecation to be found on either side it’s a bit sad. Your column would be been *so* much better if it had included some of that, but I can’t fault you for towing the lib line. So I will still enjoy your observations on the comics as long as you don’t engage in *too* much political bias.
And… look at it this way: if the democratic party can actually just come up with *one* reasonable candidate in the next presidential election it has a very good chance of succeeding. The mess that was John Kerry still did better than Mondale, so it’s not like you need to try too much harder. While there isn’t anyone around right now that fits that bill there is absolutely no reason this can’t change in three years. So I wouldn’t give up but fight for what you believe (heck, perhaps *you* would be a good candidate. Never say never).

As being one of the few liberals who hails from Western Maryland (and spent eightteen of my years there unwillingly), your comment about giving that God forsaken region of Maryland to the Red States gave me a hearty chuckle. I’ve been attending college outside of Baltimore for the past four years and I can truly say that that’s done wonders for my political soul…
(Great blog, by the way! I stumbled upon it yesterday.)

Bush is a disaster. Dubbya is probably the most inarticulate mook who ever occupied the White House. I can’t stand him. And I voted for him twice. I’m hoping the Republicans can come up with something better in ‘08. But the way it’s looking now, I’ll probably once again hold my nostrils closed with one hand while pushing the button for Rudy with the other.
The Democrats don’t have a chance of getting my vote. Ever. They all seem to be locked in this hard-left liberal one-world-order thing. Global warming, indeed. They don’t want to fight for oil. Great. Remember that while you’re freezing to death next winter. Enjoy your global warming.
I hate politics. I hate politicians. I come to sites like this to get a break from all that. Stick with the comics. And unless you’re a totally self-sufficient. off-the-grid, agrarian lifestyle type who I can smell coming a half-mile away because you haven’t had a bath in 20 years, shut up about the stinking Global warming. And if you’re enjoying any of the benefits of a free, prosperous, technologically advanced society, shut up about the evils of capitalism. And unless you live in a place where you don’t see endless crime, shut up about traditional morality and faith-based values.
People are liberal for only one reason. To achieve social status, popularity, and political power. And while enjoying those benefits available to them due to living in a free society, the solid conservatives are hard at work and risking their lives to keep those benefits flowing to those who do nothing to deserve them. I’m sick of it.

Oh, that’s rich, .Doc. Iraqi civilian bystanders have threatened our freedom, however Bush and his cronies have done nothing but work tirelessly (excluding monthly vacations, of course) to protect American freedoms.
Right.
A blog about the funny pages sure is the right place for that tripe.

short version of dot-doc: “if you’re a liberal, shut up.”
anyway, i’m so glad i found this blog. gets me away from politics and into the wonderful world of bad cartoons. (you might have noticed that, pathologically, i’m reading it from beginning to end, like a novel. slow work day.) obama won the nomination and yet i’m not sure i’m any less despairing now about the political situation than i was on this day in 2004. because 3 1/2 years later the damage, it would seem, has now been done.
