Metapost: Two tidbits!

A fair number of you are probably going to the Small Press Expo in Bethesda next weekend. Perhaps more of you will be going once you find out that you’ll be able to see me there! Unlike MoCCA earlier this year, I won’t just be wandering around aimlessly; at 12:30 pm on Saturday, October 13, I’ll be moderating a panel called “Nemo’s Wake: Comic Stripping Today.” The panelists will be Bill Griffith (Zippy the Pinhead), Nicholas Gurewitch (The Perry Bible Fellowship), Keith Knight (The K Chronicles), and Ted Rall (Search and Destroy), and I’ll be trying to get them to discuss (according to the panel description) “the strengths and struggles of drawing personal work in the comic strip form today, in venues ranging from the web to alternative newsweeklies to the traditional daily comics page,” though I may mostly focus on getting them to talk smack about Beetle Bailey. Don’t miss it! And even if you don’t feel like going to this panel, I will in fact be wandering around aimlessly for most of the rest of that day, so be on the lookout if you want to chat me up!

On a related note, is anyone going to be driving either to or from SPX from or to the Baltimore area on Saturday, October 13? Would you be willing to give me a ride? If so, e-mail me! I’m more than happy to take the train down, so this panel doesn’t depend on your generosity, but wouldn’t it be nice to help me save a bit of time and a few bucks in return for an hour or so in close quarters with my sparkling generosity and wit? No serial killers, please.

On a totally unrelated note … hey, young people of today! Are you on the Facebook? Would you like to associate your love for my fine site with whatever sort of social networking hullabaloo you young people do on the Facebook? Well, now there’s a Comics Curmudgeon Facebook group! I didn’t create it, but I did join it, and (assuming you have a Facebook account) so should you! And then the magic will happen.

Nothing about Chin-nuts? No “Extry, Extry?”

Two major deaths in the funny pages and no chatter at the Comics Curmudgeon? Are you all on Facebook talking about it right now? What gives?

C’mon, people, there was what, thirty seconds between this post and the next one? And since there were no comics in this one, you knew another one was coming eventually, right? Give it a minute before ya start kvetching, already…

Hey Josh, speaking of email, I sent you a new t-shirt design. I probably should have given you a heads up here before sending it three times; now I’ll look desperate.

What an awesome panel! Wish I didn’t live in the sticks of NC. :(

What are the chances of recording the panel and posting it online? It sounds pretty interesting.

Delurking to point out that one of the “related groups” on the sidebar of the Facebook group is “Unlike 99.99% of the Facebook population, I was born in the 70s”. :)

I’m not a Facebook person, but if there’s a LJ or a MySpace area for the CC, please let us know.

I’m bemusing the day where I explain to the Missus about ‘friending’ Galactic Emperor Chennux.

Keith Knight is one of my fav mid range cartoonists, Griffith sometimes has absurdly amusing stuff I also like Mr. Rall’s stuff quite a bit too, sounds like a fun panel.

I’ll be at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, coming from Baltimore, but I’m tabling so I’ll be there Friday & Saturday. Good luck with the panelists.

Didn’t see any better place to put this, so here goes: In this review of Halo 3, there is a very brief glimpse of Fingerquoting Margo. I wonder if Yahtzee is a Curmudgeon reader….

Holy crap, I had no idea there were that many devoted readers here (considering that you’re already narrowing it down to readers who use Facebook). Way to be popular. :)

I’ll be at SPX (table G7-A, baby!) with a brand-new minicomic that’s pretty curmudgeonly, if I do say so myself. Probably won’t break away to see the panel, but it sounds intriguing– happy moderating, Josh!

Hey, I think I’m moderating the very next panel on Saturday afternoon! That one looks awesome! I’ll introduce myself, Josh. I mean, if I can make my way through your throng of adoring fans.

Hahaha, that’s actually my Facebook group! I created it after seeing that there wasn’t already one. I feel appreciated now. It seems to have really taken off since I created it, although looking at the message board now it seems that I’ve received flak for calling Josh “Joshn.”

    Whoops.

I don’t know if this is the place to put this or if this is completely old news or if this is of any interest to anyone, but I cried “HEY!” aloud when I saw Margo fly by in the middle of this very fast very funny
    video game review .

Delurking to say.. Now life is complete.. I LOVE FACEBOOK. I don’t comment here often because you have all of these amazing people who are much much snarkier than me and usually say exactly what I want before I get a chance. But, wow, Facebook tops it all…

BTW, Good luck at the panel. =)

Maughta, just so you know, half of the D island is taken up by comics creators from NC. SPX is a great show for the indy-interested, and well worth the four hour drive.

Unfortunately, when it comes finding a place to stay, you’re on your own. Hotel is booked solid.

Oh yeah… I’m one of those indy comics guys. Dirk Dada and Victor von Phlogistein hope you come by the table, Josh.

Mr. Ma-tron and I will be at SPX too! We’ll be staffing table A-12 for our New Mexico comic book creators’ group, 7000 BC. We’ll definitely see who we can scam into tabling for us so we can go see your panel, Josh!

I’ll be at SPX, too, with copies of my new mini “Booby Biter” (if I manage to get it to the printers in time). I wish I could hook you up w/a ride, Josh, but it would actually take me more time to drive to B’more than Bethesda. But do you or anyone here have a smidge of table space they could spare? No more than a foot-wide strip across a table for my meager offerings? Help a first-timer out, please.

Oh, and I reiterate: “Ted Rall? Ick.”
