Metapost: MERCH GUIDE!

Hey everybody! If there’s one thing I hear from people about the stuff in the Comics Curmudgeon store, it’s “sweet God, what the hell does any of this crap MEAN?” Well, wonder no more: I’ve put together an annotated merchandise guide! So now you’ve got no excuse to not buy tons of crap.

Sweet Jesus. We needed a guide? We have we become?

Just too cool, Josh! I’ve always wanted to see the original references to some of the earlier gems. Now all in one place!

    #1 Dingo –

It’s not for us; it’s for future generations.

Won’t somebody think of the children?

Yes, I think we needed a guide; I’ve only been hanging around here since the end of June or so, and I’ve been hesitant to buy some of this swell swag because I’ve never been quite sure what the source is. My fears have been allayed.

(Meanwhile, do you think anybody really submits a caption to the NYCC and then spends $49.95 to have his/her caption incorporated into a print of the cartoon? How much of an egotist do you have to be?)

Thank you, Josh. I stumbled onto (over?) this place towards the tail end of last summer’s Aldomania, so I wasn’t familiar with some of the earlier references.

    This is cool.

Perhaps those logos not designed by Josh should have that noted? (Gail Martin = Dingo, etc.) That would be my only suggestion.

Besides a Mariolator shirt. Time to learn photoshop?

Awesome. That will save future ‘mudges all of the painstaking searching that I had to do (or… god forbid… asking in the comments and getting outed as a n00b!)

Of all the glory, “Roadside” remains a classic. Simple, yet it encapsulates all Canadian foobery in one jive word.

I just laughed my ass off at the ridiculous description. I can’t imagine stumbling on that page without thinking “Whadda bunch of loons.”

Josh, this is an essential resource — thanks! Now excuse me for momentarily being all 20th century and whatnot, but will we ever see The Comics Curmudgeon: The Book?

    Time to learn photoshop?

That was directed at myself, not Josh or any of the other photoshop whizzes who’ve created designs instead of just whining about about wanting them, as I have. Sorry for the inadvertent snottiness.

Thank you! I know I’m often reluctant to explain my jokes, so it’s really nice that you could do it for your own. And knowing the background makes them funny.

    Dear NYCC,

Is it too late to cancel my $49.95 for my personalized cartoon?

Thanks from those of us who haven’t been here long enough to know the origins (but have been here long enough to care waaaaay too much..)

On behalf of future readers, thank you! I found my way here this summer, and it took me a week to get through all of the archive to get the merch jokes. It was especially surreal, since I went thru them backwards, from most recent to first post.

#7 SecretMargo — You’re quite right; I’ve gone back and added credit where due. It’s all from memory, though I’m close to positive I’m right about my attributions (please, let me know if I’m not, though).

Anyhting that isn’t credited to a faithful reader was cobbled together by me from royalty-free clip art and doofy fonts.

SecretMargo, the Gail Martin shirt is actually done in Illustrator.

Ol’ Muffaroo checks his post carefully and previews before sending. (”There we go! Every word is perfect! Especially my name!!”)

Ah, but just before he hits SEND, some mad backslasher sneaks in and puts a reverse slasheroonie in ol’ Muff’s oh-so-precious nom de snarque. (”Margo Saturn Fucking Boxcar… it did it again!”)

thanks and a tip of the Hatlo hat to Kip\\\\\ W

Thank you so much for this guide…”More information about licorice” was before my time here at the Comics Curmudgeon, but I had developed a theory that the line came from Slylock Fox. Who else would say something so demented? Why, Mark Trail, that’s who! Fortunately, I have been set straight, and Mark won’t have to break out the Right Fist o’ Justice on my sorry behind.

Oh Sh*t, now I’m gonna have Mark Trail, Lynn Johnston, Stephen Harper, the ghost of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, the New England and Quebec Maple Syrup Boards, AND the NY Parks Dept. after my ass.

Back to the Linnaeus chronicles for me! : )

I never post, but I’ve been around this site long enough to remember the origins of Every. One. of These.

Wow. I can’t commit to a box of cereal I bought last week, but I keep coming back to the Curmudgeon…..thanks, Josh!

Thanks! As a lurker for the last 6 months, a lot of this hadn’t made sense. I would like to lodge one complaint – it seems impossible to get a “Roadside” shirt for men. I need one for the local bars, and I don’t have the bod to pull of the tank. Help a Baltimore brother out.
