Metapost: I am a whore Welcome to the National Lampoon Humor Network!
The eagle-eyed among you have no doubt noticed the NLHN doodad up there at the top of the left-hand nav bar and are (since you dedicate so much of your time and energy thinking about this site) buggin’ out. Has the site been sold? Is Josh now getting fat paychecks from the bigwigs over at National Lampoon? Will this blog now be written by National Lampoon interns while Josh sips umbrella drinks poolside at the National Lampoon compound with Beverly D’Angelo and Randy Quaid? The answers to these questions are no, no, and, sadly, no.
Basically, my being in the NLHN means that you can use that drop down menu to visit the other sites in the network, and readers of those sites can use said menu to visit me. In the next few days, I’ll be adding a new box down there with the ads that will provide links to the latest posts from other NLHN sites. There will be changes made to how I sell the ads on my site to go along with all this, but I’m sure you care about that as much as you care about how I currently sell ads, which is to say: not at all.

Considering the quality of their movies, you help their reputation far more than they help you.

National Lampoon still makes movies?? I thought they dropped out of existence in the early 90’s.

Nat Lamp died from a massive exodus of their talent in the late 70’s and early 80’s. A victim of success. Good cartoons though, Dirty Duck, Trots and Bonnie, Dr. Colon’s Monster, Nutz, and numerous Gahan Wilson, M. K. Brown offerings. Doing toons for Playboy was more lucrative along with SNL.
Oh, yeah, things were better in my youth. Yas, yas, yas…

NL was so great in the 70s. My favorite was definitely the “If You Don’t Buy This Magazine We’ll Shoot This Dog” issue.

I will never forget the opening line to a National Lampoon music review of a Karla Bonoff album, c.1980:
“I have always wanted to f@%$ Karla Bonoff.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if those NL links opened in a new window (or allowed you to right click and order them to open in a new window)?
I’m just saying.

Hello all – Hope it’s ok to mention this here – After a brief break, we have started up with our comics page spoof again at http://www.diversionsurplus.com
We are now moving on into Mark Trail, with a tried-and-true plot device that will enable us to be goofy with even more strips. Hope you enjoy!

Man, that Lynn Johnson can lay the smack down if she wants to, can’t she? It’s funny how she presumes to speak for all cartoonists, though. I wonder how other cartoonists feel about that?
She has some good points, though.

While you’re whoring out, do you think you can get rid of the mostly-naked bikini chick in the ads there? It makes it really hard to sneak in some Comics Curmudgeon reading at work withing co-workers getting the wrong impression. Save the porn ads for the porn sites, please.

The gitsum girl radiated an innocent kind of sluttiness, the blogshub girl looks like a meat grinder that could chew you up and spit you out, not that I would mind that of course. It’s like having a horny little angel on one shoulder and a horny little devil on the other.

FBOFW: bad enough that dentist’s wives own bookstores as a hobby job to annoy hardworking book reps with their snivelling prattle; now st. lynn has to “speak out.”
in the first place, is she an editorial cartoonist? does she know the difference between comics and editorial cartoons? does she have some sort of degree in foreign affairs or experience in the international realm? did she major in theology? in short, why are we supposed to pay attention to her self-righteous blather? or is she just another “concerned citizen” not wanting to alienate her muslim customers?
(let the record show that this cartoon imbroglio was fomented by a danish neo-con editor to stir up a religious malestrom–qui bono.)
i could go on, but its just not worth the effort. retire already, and look at your snapshots, and ponder the future of your blessed saintlets. and pray that no one will blaspheme their reputations.

This is the blessing & the curse of using ad blocking software with my browser… I don’t see the half-naked bikini chicks, which is a plus (I’m a straight female), but I don’t know what the rest of you are talking about. Anyway, if you don’t want CC to look like a pr0n site, I recommend Googling “ad blocker.”

#29: Concerned Citizen says:
“…could Blogshub have some connection to Shub-Niggurath, one of the Elder Gods along with his tenacled buddies, Cthulu and Dagon? …”
Now that I think about it, didn’t Yog-sothoth have a wife named Blogshub? If so, Lovecraft should’ve illustrated his stories and he wouldn’t have died in poverty. One could get into way more trouble just bringing up those tenacles in the wrong context “… oh, baby, bring that three-lobed burning eye over here right now!”
Sorry. I hate when my consciousness is temporarily taken over by one of the Ancient Ones, especially when I’m playing pinball.
Michael (#30), from the reviews I’ve read, and the single unfortunate example I’ve seen (Van Wilder), NatLamp movies have been phoning it in for a long time (purists, if they can be called that in this context, would argue that Animal House was the only NatLamp movie able to hold up its (metaphorical) head in movie society.) I’m not sure that you couldn’t chart the relative quality of Doonesbury and the NatLamp movies and see them both go down from the same point in time to the current nadir they occupy.

I don’t want to block ads, because that’s what keeps the site up and running and it’s cheaper than me having to send in micropayments or watch a 30 second commercial or some other crap.
I just want reasonable ads that aren’t (basically) porn so I can read it at work. In fact, when you think about it, this site probably comes up in a lot of searches kids do for comic characters, so maybe you should think about being a bit more picky about the ads for that reason also.

Perhaps it’s Lynn’s Canadian sensibilities (read into that what you will), but I don’t think the cartoonists should take the responsibility for the burning of embassies, kidnappings and murders of foreigners by the religious zealots of the “peaceful religion of Islam.” That’s a load of crap. I’m sick of these people foaming at the mouth over every little perceived slight and insult. Remember Salmon Rushdie? These people want to end our way of life and put the whole world under a religious theocracy. Lynn’s comments disgust me.

According to Lynn, free speech is fine, so long as you don’t use it.
I find her comic strip disgusting and disturbing. It pains me. I classify it as a hate crime against humor and Canadians.
Somehow, I don’t think she’s going to stop.

Why does Mark Trail suddenly want the redneck’s gun now when he showed no interest in it earlier when the rifle was lying right at his feet, his for the taking? This plot has more moves than jello. Pa and Duke may have been modeled after Redneck Rampage.

#35 — Is a girl in a bikini really your idea of pornography? What harm could that picture possibly do to a child surfing for comic sites?
gradioc
February 9th, 2006 at 7:24 pm
Okay, now I’m confused. If this is porn, what were those other sites I was just surfing? Back to the comics, you know, if little Eon girl was willing to work it like a claw she might still be on track to be the future Mrs. JP Jr. As it is I think Randy has avoided his appointment with the special Kool-Aid.

(let the record show that this cartoon imbroglio was fomented by a danish mullah who took cartoons published neo-con editor in SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER of 2005 then ADDED other, more BLASPHEMOUS cartoons and shipped them all in book form to the Middle East to stir up a religious malestrom–qui bono.)
