Hmmm … uh …

Family Circus, 9/17/04

OK, so, there’s the harmonica, see …

And, um, it’ll be on the cell phone … cell phones are annoying…

And Jeffy can’t really play the harmonica (I guess that’s why the “try” bit is in there) …

And that’s funny because …

Aw, hell, I admit. I don’t get it. You win this time Bil Keane. This time.

    It’s a metaphor.

All right, it’s a dirty joke. Look at the way Billy’s holding the ‘harmonica’. See? See?

  2. Kelly says:

Even Jeffy looks sorry for this joke.

  3. Dan says:

Hey… when did Jeffy develop breasts?

  4. Kristin says:

I’m thinking Uncle Bob is in jail. We commonly see jailed prisoners playing the harmonica on TV or in movies. And Jeffy wants to call him on his “cell phone.” Geddit? Geddit?? That Jeffy is such an insensitive little bastard.

  5. Holden says:

    ??? What the hey?

  6. Stephen says:

I just love the sloped eyes on Jeffy’s face. Itlooks like he’s a child of ma and pa Kettle.

  7. Prehumous says:

This joke wasn’t very good. I’m beginning to think that the writers for this strip aren’t putting as much effort into it as they should.

  8. Amy says:

I hate the way he’s looking straight out at us, compelling innocent readers to envision themselves as Blandola Bil and/or whatever-his-wife’s-name is.

  9. Ben says:

The nervous-looking eyebrows make this seem to me like a sad, ultimately vain plea to make up for not getting Uncle Bob a birthday present. Off-panel, Jeffy’s parents glare at him in stony-faced anger.

I do hope you’re familiar with the Dysfunctional Family Circus — http://dfc.furr.org/index.html ?

  11. bunnymen says:

Is it a “wasting cell phone minutes” joke?

    Is it??

  12. PsychoPearl says:

I wonder if in Family Circus-ville, “play the harmonica” is slang for smoke a doobie?
