Beetle Bailey, 12/9/04

For everyone who doubts that the French are a menace to all we hold dear in the good old US of A, I offer this installment of Beetle Bailey. Since they know that they can’t beat our military in a stand-up fight, we can here see that they are undermining our army’s preparedness. Sure, there are no actual French people in the comic, but Camp Swampy’s morale is being ravaged by ennui — an emotion so identified with the French that there isn’t even an English word for it. Quelle horreur!

Momma, 12/8/04

Today’s Momma is pretty much an illustration of the difference between a gag-driven strip and a character-driven strip. I’ve been reading Momma daily for the last two years, and this is the first time I’ve noticed that Thomas and his cooking-impaired wife have a child, which I’m guessing is because they didn’t before the idea for this joke came along. I mean, come on: wouldn’t longer and more frequent visits with her only grandchild be one of the primary demands dominating Momma’s cavalcade of passive aggression?

On the other hand, maybe she’s scared of little Chucky, since they appear to be roughly the same size.

Anyway, I hope the happy parents enjoy their night out seeing the new smash hit film Love is a Blah.

A lot of blogs and Websites with substantial readerships have linked to me lately, which has translated into me getting a serious increase in traffic. Now, I consider my actual traffic numbers to be a trade secret, but I can tell you that the number of regular IRTCSYDHT readers has gone from dozens to literally hundreds per day. This is great for stroking my ego, but, if things keep going at their current pace, I may have to pay more to my Web host because of the additional bandwidth.

To defray these possible costs, I’ve added some Google and Amazon ads to the site (they’re in the left-hand navbar; scroll down a bit to see them). I hope the ads are visible but not too obtrusive, and I promise to do no more pimping for them in the blog itself after this.

The parser cuts out the stylesheets, rotates the images, and suppresses pop-ups. I’m honored that Dan chose my blog as one of the demonstration sites for his work. Check it out!
