Troubled youth

Dennis the Menace, 8/27/26

As my readers well know, part of Dennis’s whole deal is that he hates his mother’s cooking and will insult it at any opportunity. Today, though, he ruefully admits that, even though his mother is bad at cooking, he doesn’t know anyone who’s better at it. Presumably he knows what good food tastes like as a result of his parents’ occasional attempts to bring him to fancy restaurants, but he doesn’t know any other cooks personally because his parents’ occasional attempts to make friends end in disaster when Dennis repeats their catty insults, so they never get invited over to anyone else’s house for dinner.
Daddy Daze, 8/27/26

Uh oh! The Daddy Daze family’s car is being fixed, but the garage won’t take credit cards, and the Daddy Daze daddy doesn’t have enough cash. What is he going to do? Follow the Daddy Daze baby’s suggestion, and … steal money from a carnival bathroom, I think?

MW: Hoping for a generous tip for his attentive service to Mary and Jeff at dinner, the waiter finds himself stiffed by a thank-you note written on a sea motif card.
FG: Looks like are old buddy Wolfang got to star in a few army training films. Wonder if they made him do the hygiene films too.
DtM: Dennis ups his game. “You’re the best cook I know…More’s the pity.”
We all know that the Baby of Daddy daze doesn’t speak, it is just a way for daddy to externalise his intrusive thoughts and immoral ideas (“should I blow the mechanic to pay the bill?”). He has simply reinvented the bicameral mind
@StripReader: BOT!
Dennis the Menace: Since Alice is an original tradwife from the actual mid-20th century, I guess it makes sense that she’s spending all day at home in nice dress, full jewelry, and a protective white apron. Which is actually very practical, since the bright-orange pumpkin soup she’s cooking Dennis for lunch is about to boil over the top of the pot and make a big mess — at which point she’ll have to clean up and put some chicken nuggets in the air fryer, like every other mom in 2026.
Daddy Daze: The baby is actually whispering, “You can’t break a one-syllable word onto the next line, dummy!”
He is just six year old and he is already insulting people using the overtly narrow superlative? Dennis might not be fit for an office job, but he’ll make a great drag queen!
DtM: Dennis has either ingested a controlled substance or been replaced by a pod person. Mom is just too exhausted to care.
MW: To Whom It May Concern: Putting a perky little streak of gray on a buff forty year-old does NOT make him look any less like Mary’s grandson.
JP: No longer a judge? You’re lucky you haven’t been disbarred.
DtM Ah but you do know one cook, Dennis, you said it yourself! If you want to riff with pedantry, you best come correct.
DD So…the baby was proposing carnaval prostitution, right? I can’t be the only one who read it like that..
@Guillermo el chiclero:
Yes, and they also made him do the PSAs about not babbling secrets to civilians, and the ones about VDs. Like, he was hyped up as an invincible super-gladiator mercenary bounty hunter, but most of Mongo knew Wolfgang as their equivalent to Private SNAFU/Beetle Bailey.
**************
Daddy Daze : Paul is SMILING at Angus’ suggestion. Whatever it is, they’re going through with it.
**************
Sally Forth : One minor criticism : Ted Forth’s thought bubble should read “…’Cause I’ve got STRENGTH of the SOUL, and NOONE’s gonna BEND or BREAK me! I can reach any star… ‘Cause I’ve got FAITH… FAITH of the HEART~” I’m sure Poteet would appreciate THAT aspect of Ted Forth!
(By which I mean, I want Poteet to fully grasp how Ted Forth’s twee Sci-fi obsession is insufferable)Daddy Daze:
The solution that Baby Angus is proposing is Kakaesque.
Daddy Daze-“You want me to bet on podracing?”
Dennis the Menace-A sudden chill runs down Mary Worth’s spine. She casually picks up the phone. “Have Dennis Mitchell eliminated.”
MW-“This’ll increase my meddling powers tenfold.”
FC-“Let’s hope they don’t come back.”
Blondie-Sadly the barber has yet gotten any female customers who want a Brazilian.
DD: “Whisper whisper?” What, are they afraid we’ll be able to translate “ba ba ba” and thus spoil the punch line?
Daddy Daze: Did he follow the Forths back to the 1980s? Even the small, sole-proprietor type places at least take Cash App/Venmo/Zelle. Heck, I have a harder time using cash these days now that most stores have self-checkout machines that refuse to make change.
DtM:
“But how come you don’t have dark hair, like Betty Crocker?”
DtM: 1950s TV housewife dress, makeup, and perfume in 2026 is a very specific kink. Alice has to get Dennis fed and out to play before Henry gets home.
“Guess what came in the mail, big guy.”
“The Playtex girdle?!”
DD: Baby Angus is just offering the deposit he just made.
Murky Tail:
Tomorrow: the cave has buyer’s remorse and spits him back out.
Wary Morth:
Looks like Moy has abandoned Dusk’s single tear heartbreak as completely as she did Trixie’s Great Escape. Unlike Trixie, who had genuinely interesting possibilities – far too interesting for this strip – even MOY probably is bored to (both eye) tears about Dusk and her romances.
MW: Ah, Baloney!
Wrecks Moregone:
Janejean or Jeanjane has suddenly developed acute constipation while Jeanjane or Janejean has suddenly developed acute wisdom toothache, right? That’s what their body language shows, right?
DT: KA-BOOM!!!
Luann: This begs the question of course, how did Luann get into the Community College if she has no conception of basic paperwork? I wonder if this is part of some big retcon and a few months down the line Luann is going to wake up and the past several years have just been a dream?
DD — No, I don’t think even the carnival will allow you to pawn an infant.
@ComicallyChallenged: Yeah, and don’t banks still give cash advances on credit cards? I legitimately wonder how cartoonists manage to justify ignoring everyday reality in the aid of producing jokes that aren’t even funny.
Daddy Daze: Oh. My. God. Daddy and baby are going to become carnies??!! Call child protective services!
@Guillermo el chiclero:
#10. JP: they’ve been disbarred for neglecting court as well as client affairs since, oh, 2022. Luckily for them, but not all the people of Cavelton, they have blanket strip protection.
Dennis the Menace: Sophistry and polysemy are truly the province of five-year-olds in search of a cookie. A+ menacing, no notes.
@Ettorre: [Screaming and pointing like Donald Sutherland at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers]
@I’m Not Cthulhu, But I Play Him On TV:
Soylent Green is bots!
DD: I can think of few things more suspicious than an auto shop that only accepts cash. They gotta be running some combination of chop shop and meth lab in the back.
DtM: Dennis can’t be more than eight years old, yet he’s already learned the fine art of passive-aggressive menacing.
Dennis normally hates his mother’s cooking, but the orange goop that clearly is never brought to a boil or it would make one hell of a mess on the stove top at least doesn’t leave him in the bathroom all night.
***
The best thing about having a character who doesn’t speak actual English words is that you can come up with a punchline that doesn’t require someone setting it up and you can confuse your readers with that character going “whisper whisper” instead of their usual “da da”.
FC: The Keanes look out onto the shack they lived in before Bil hit it big and built their glass house.
MW: Ever prim and proper, Mary readies her thank you cards for the upcoming orgy.
Dennis should use this “insult buried inside a compliment” technique more often. He’s good at it, and it leaves his victims seeking his approval. He’ll finally get that cult he always wanted off the ground!
Daddy Daze: This is the first time I’ve really looked at how this guy carries his baby, and frankly I’m not OK with it. Unless the laws of weight and mass simply choose to stay as far away from this weirdo as possible, which is a decision I can respect.
B. Bailey:
Answer: You can’t put a square peg in a round hole.
Question: Doc, can I make a dildo out of Legos?
DD – is the joke that they’ve travelled back to the 70s? Or are in some deep backwoods area and Snuffy Smif is about to appear? The mechanic doesn’t take credit cards????
@The Quiet Man: when I was at university a popular bumper sticker for students there was a dig at the local county college… “If you can’t read this, you can go to PG Community College.”
DTM: “…other than Mrs. Wilson, that is. But she’s not so damn emotionally needy and doesn’t require positive reinforcement to do her job!” (Now, that’s menace.)
C’shaft: Weird that a strip that’s been characteristically suspicious and resentful of any technological advance less than thirty years old is so on board with this particular trend. Maybe Batiuk just hates having to tip his waitstaff.
DT: “And please ignore the implicitly ominous way I phrased that.”
Dustin: Taking small steps and celebrating small victories is widely considered a good thing for mental and emotional health, especially for people with high executive dysfunction (which all evidence indicates Dustin has). I’m guessing the writers of Dustin don’t know that and we’re supposed to be laughing at the low bar he’s set for himself.
GT: I think Beth has every right to be worried: Coach Permawave’s vendetta might target her as well, she’s not an immortal god-king like Gil, and she’s exactly the sort of young, vibrant wife who would get fridged in order to traumatize her white male protagonist husband.
JP: “Retired,” “disgraced,” six on one hand…
Luann: How did Luann even get into this college if she’s this clueless about the process? Has she just been wandering into classes at random? (Would explain a lot…)
MW: Dr. Jeff may be the lamest sugar daddy ever.
RMMD: “Curses, we’ve been thwarted by the gentle intervention of our grandfather who we don’t live with and who has no apparent means, legal or otherwise, to keep us from doing what we want!”
“Step right up, step right up, into the House of Oddities, and here’s the Amazing Telepathic Sheep Baby, it talks like a sheep, walks like a sheep, but can transmit fully formed thoughts straight into your mind! Purchased at a steep price from a Russian prince!”
@Mr. A: Geez, you’re right. He’s holding that 9-12 month old kid like a double handful of Skittles.
GT: Congratulations on your new mail order blender/electron microscope, Missus Thorpe! My god, Merrill is a terrible artist.
Lockhorns: Thank you for the fan service, Hoest Enterprises, Inc. We don’t see enough of these voluptuous giantesses any more.
RxMD: Speaking of troubled youth, we’ve seen that even in the hands of a faithless, remorseless grifter the Mirakle Method can turn around the life and fortunes of a crass, gluttonous guitar-picking shit-kicking shit-head, but will it work on a pair of dim-witted and delusional wannabe grifter twins who apparently never saw The Prestige and therefore have wasted their one real grifting asset going everywhere together dressed identically? Well, the inventor the Mirakle Method is here to put it to the test!
@TheDiva:
On Crankshaft featuring a robot character in a sympathetic light :
1. It’s a return to form, like how HOLTRON was depicted as fully sentient, if mistake-prone. (HOLTRON was the school’s computer that handled making class schedules and such. A running gag was that it was INCAPABLE of not double-booking (the plot of the musical is that it accidentally TRIPLE-booked an away football game, an away marching band parade at a different school from the football game, and the homecoming dance))
2. I think what happened is that Batiuk went to a place that uses a robot waiter, it completely BLEW HIS MIND, he demanded Davis create such a character to add to the cast, and judging by how “dynamic” the art of Pepper’s debut storyline has been so far, Davis’ reaction was “You think robots taking the job of people is awesome, do you, Batiuk? You feel an artificial intelligence is a better coworker than an actual person?”
**************
On Luann : How did Luann even get into this college if she’s this clueless about the process? Has she just been wandering into classes at random? (Would explain a lot…)
I’m thinking that it’s her parents that have handled all the administrative/payment formalities to have her attend Pittsville Community College… But also “Luann just wanders in and out of random classes” would track.
Anyway, the idea is to have an “insurmountable” obstacle block her from attaining her dream of being a drama teacher so she can instantly give up on it again, for like the 3rd time.
GT: “How should I evict him? The guy hates me, kidnapped two people at our wedding reception, unrealistically escaped decades in prison, and is on the loose. Are you high Beth? What are you on?”
“Wait a minute and I’ll show you.”
WHIIIRRRRRRRRRRRR!
DtM: Our protagonist has just become more subtle in his menacing technique, actually. The implied subtext is, “Of course, that also means you’re the *worst* cook I know.” And Dennis runs away cackling as Alice’s soft smile dissolves into tears.
DD: In addition to the obvious animal rights concerns, carnival geeking is an affront to human dignity, but the Daddy Daze daddy doesn’t have any of that, so why not give it a whirl? I’m with the baby on this one.
@Anonymous: #12: Unbeknownst to Wolfang, one of his films on STDs was a thinly disguised p0rno flick that Ming kept for his personal enjoyment. That’s why he was Ming’s favorite gladiator.
Last Sunday’s Prince Valiant: Aleta leads her confused daughters to the mountainside villa where she keeps the Green Lantern. “In brightest day, in darkest night….”
Meanwhile, Vanni’s introduction of the new invasive flora will drive out nutritious wheat, barley, millet, and other essential grains within a generation. They’ll have plenty of oranges, though. No more worrying about scurvy while they starve to death.
So the Daddy Daze baby is whispering to the Daddy Daze Daddy. He just pulled Daddy Daze’s Daddy’s head close in a moment of desperation and whispered, “Ba ba ba ba ba,” and Daddy Daze Daddy heard, “Commit filthy, despicable crime. It’s the only way.” Daddy’s holding his moral high ground, but it’s an unsettling development.
Dennis – All Cretans are liars, Dennis knows no cooks, and his mother is the best cook he knows. Paradoxing is the real menace!
Daddy Daze – “Fixéd?” All this time, the Daze Daddy has been speaking Elizabethan English? “Verily, Angus, what thou dost propose doth make my two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres, my knotted and combined locks to part, and each particular hair to stand on end, like quills upon the fretful porpentine! Or it would, if I weren’t bald.”
(Tip o’ the hat to longtime CC commenter Nehemiah Scudder)
Don Abundio, translated:
[Sign: ZOO]
“The Earth is under attack from outer space!”
“Heavens! Everybody follow me!”
“What are we going to do, Don Abundio?”
“What any smart businessman would do!”
“My friends and I welcome our new alien overlords!”
[Sign: HUMANS]
@TheDiva: On CS – I’m sure that come tomorrow or Saturday the titular character will come in, pull one of his stupid malaprops and the robot will error out and explode in a shower of sparks like Johnny 5.
On GT: Fridging Beth wouldn’t traumatize God-King Gil Thorp. I think his whole body is made of the same material as Rex Morgan’s hair helmet and is impervious to any sort of emotion or introspection that is not related in some way to sportsballing.
@Activist: ‘I want to talk to you about that… what say you and I buy an old van and travel the country righting wrongs and dispensing justice where the state has failed to do so? You can be the gruff but kindly leader, April can be the wild card who’ll snap a neck at any moment, whatsherface can be the precocious kid we rescue from the villain-of-the-week and I’ll be the colorful comic relief! Wanna hear my proposed catch phrases??’
DT: Okay – gimmicky USB drives are a thing. They are often inconvenient because the cutesy part hinders the use of any nearby USB ports. Clearly the writer/artist have seen one of these cutesy drives. But what is on it? A key to a crypto account? Bank account numbers?
FG: While this flash backing is going on, how is the battle going? Did anyone else get rescued from the city that FELL OUT OF THE SKY? Again, how did Ming ever lose to these people?
Gil Thorp: (1) The appearance of the blender is clearly a wedding gift, AND it is an opportunity to write off the new blender the artist bought as a “reference” item! (2) the view point from outside the house foreshadows Gerard and his minion (his Igor) stalking the Thorps – please let this be a comic strip version of Cape Fear that has now been made three times (original with Robert Mitchum, remade with Robert DeNiro and most recently with Javier Barden) in the movies / streaming. Football season is going to launch if it has not already, so I hope this means the strip is heading into a direction where Gil and his new wife get into adventures and his prior life as a coach gets largely forgotten.
Mary Worth: Even the writers are getting bored of the same old orders at the Bum Boat – Dr. Jeff ordering a steak or surf and turf, etc. Or is this pre-ordering???
Phantom: What or who is abandoning what perimeter? Is the Python on the run? If the drones are down, how are he control signals getting to his ankle device if there are no relays?
RMMD: Please let the twins be externally thrown off not because of the revelation that Uncle Lyle knows of their plan. They realize that they have to factor in knocking off Uncle Lyle, disposing of his body, and then do the kidnapping. Always is something…
DTM: Based solely on the picture, I would have guessed Dennis was flirting inappropriately with Alice. I mean, that’s what it looks like he’s doing. I was relieved to scroll further down and see that this was just a “joke” about his mother’s cooking.
DD: Frankly, I’m more worried about the garage. They must routinely perform repairs that cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars, and yet they run a cash-only business? That does not seem sustainable.
Daddy Daze; There are a limited number of ways to make money in a public restroom and almost all of them involve some sort of sexual debauchery. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that instead of *****jobs in the bathroom he plans to;
A; Sell his clean urine to meth addicts on parole
B. Fake an accident an sue the carnival
C Steal stuff
@Anonymous: Re: Sally Forth: I’m honestly surprised that Ted Forth isn’t saying that, apropos of nothing. It totally sounds like something that would escape his mouth during one of his manic flights of “whimsy.”
I just want to point out that the car repair he’s trying to get is for a massive engine fire. His car should be damaged beyond repair and he should be collecting insurance money
@Hibbleton:
And Bil says, “Well, who are we to throw stones?”
@TheDiva:
GT: Maybe that thing is not a badly drawn blender but a part of a Interocitor and we are about to go on a truly amazing out of this world adventure once Beth finishes assembling it. That would explain Gerard’s forehead.
JP: So the strip is entering the last stage – no main character is a judge and the key characters are more and more NOT named Parker… Please usher in the era of Charlotte.
Luann: Sadly this is one part that can have more than a kernel of truth. A lot of young people and families bought into the notion that “going to college” was the gateway to a middle class health insuranced white collar life with a house. Only much later many realized that the days of studying English Lit or The Classics and then getting some corporate job are long over (and was last true back around before and after WW2). At least Luann didn’t take out huge loans of hundreds of thousands to discover she has a useless degree for any well paying job. The Evanses have made a good point but have written themselves into a trap. She has to take a core set of classes now – which means a goal and necessary steps. ? Will we see that or will this new process of doing the needed classes drag on for 2-4 years!
Daze – Don’t stereotype, Daddy! It’s possible the auto mechanic will be willing to wear a condom.
REX MORGAN M.D.: “…And I really don’t see how aping the plot of Rex Morgan M.D.: would help in this situation, Angus. (After all I barely understand how it would help in Rex Morgan M.D.).”
@TheDiva: Somewhere between Bari and Elon, have Batiuk and Davis decided to just throw it all away for clout, and to get the world’s worst fanbase?
@treetown: On GT – I once read someone (I think it was on a Mystery Science Theater page) point out that the ‘hero’ of that movie goes on this incredible, mind-bending journey across the cosmos, sees a once great civilization breathe its last, escapes death multiple times, and he seems to be *completely* unaffected by it all when the movie ends! All that said though, Cal Meecham has nothing on Gil Thorp for stoic indifference…
RMMD- Now I almost wish the twins were triplets. One could cover her eyes-“See no Morgans” The second could cover her ears-“Hear of no revenge against the Morgans”-and the third could cover her mouth, right after she says “Screw you and the Morgans, Gramps!”
MW – I love a good pen as a gift. But please let me buy my own stationery, because f*** seashell motifs.
MW- “But you can’t buy them Mary, you can only get them in boxes of ‘Breeze ‘!”
Daddy Daze:
Wait… is this an arc continuing from when his car caught on fire a few days ago?
Does Daddy Daze even do arcs?
Did we miss a bunch of comics with Paul trying to get his car repaired?
@Anonymous: I don’t even know what the Twins’ beef with the Morgans is.
The ONLY plotlines that I remember connecting the Morgans with Rene was when he was tutoring Sarah in art when she was (with the mafia?) then attempted to sue Sarah for plagiarism and ultimately failed.
Even if Rene holds a grudge against that, I don’t know why his nieces would as well.
@Old School Allie Cat: Well, Southern California. But come to think of it, the only time we see the sea is during sunset cruises with Dr. Jeff on Big Boaty McPenis, or when Wilbur is contemplating drunk suicide.
GT: That thing is the Enigma Machine she ordered from Amazon, planning on sending coded messages to elderly Nazis in Argentina. Look out, Western Democracies — it’s Beth Thorp, She-Wolf of the S.S.!
H&L: Hey that’s the same girl Ditto was playing catch with on August 9th. Are we about to develop a new recurring character? I am shook.
@Ukulele Ike: I never heard the term “Wolf” being used for hitler or nazis, until literally yesterday, when I was watching “Ghost Hunters International” investigate a haunting at one of hitler’s (bombed out) bunkers called “Wolf’s Lair”
Weird.
Protip for Dennis and his writers: This would be more menacing and funnier if the clauses were reversed. Punchline last!
@The Rambling Otter:
Yes, exactly
Daddy Daze: The dialogue from the final panel, gives me Sam (from Sam and Max) vibes. I can’t really explain it.
@Anonymous: Thank you! ^^
Family Circus: The Keane kids have started building their own version of the Guantanamo Bay prison. Jeffy will be the first to test out the advanced interrogation techniques.
@The Rambling Otter: As a kid I had a wargame called Wolfpack about U-boats hunting Allied convoys, though apparently the German word “Rudeltaktik” just means “pack tactics.” (But Ike is alluding to the 1970s exploitation film Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS.)
@The Rambling Otter:
“Well, Max, the car’s being fixed, but the garage won’t take credit cards and we don’t have enough cash. It seems we’re going to have to undertake another pointless chain of nonsensical deals until we obtain the necessary funds.”
“OoOoOoOr, Sam, instead of doing some stupid adventure game puzzle, we could do like in that Jim Carrey vehicle, The Mask, and just break into the garage, and jam a muffler up that jerk’s backside until he relents and let us have our car back for free!”
“Oh, you crack me up, little buddy!”
Wait, Paul said Angus plan is not hygienic… did Angus REALLY suggest jamming a muffler up the car mechanic’s butt?Beetle Bailey: Sarge’s doctor has just informed him it’s physically impossible for him to have sexual relations because he inexplicably has a square peg shaped penis.
@Anonymous: “seems we’re going to have to undertake another pointless chain of nonsensical deals until we obtain the necessary funds.”
I loved that as a running gag in the Telltale Season 1 games.
Where Bosco is selling something super expensive, and you need it, so you solve a bunch of puzzles to get the money, each succeeding chapter it gets more and more ludicrously expensive.
Eventually…
Sam: Why are these items so ridiculously expensive?
Bosco: I charge whatever insane prices I want, and you keep buying them, so I tell you, who’s the fool?
DtM – When’s that pumpkin soup gonna be done….
DD – Umm…so, the baby is suggesting paying with some act of sodomy? I didn’t see that one (umm) coming….
Adios Amigos, DJ.
Dennis The Menace: Always nice to get these once in a blue moon strips where Dennis is actually being a little shithead hellraiser for once. Especially impressive that this is a legit great backhanded insult-compliment. Dennis has been workshopping this one, waiting to spring it at the right time.
Daddy Daze: A few weeks later, Daddy Daze Daddy is on trial for a home invasion and burglary that left an entire family dead. His only defense is that his toddler made him do it.
Pluggers are a little unaware of some changes in idiomatic language use.
Hagar: Winter is coming soon to Scandinavia, and Polly could do with calling less attention to herself now. At some point everything will be covered in snow, and the dried meat and salt cod will run out.
MW: Wow! This is the Jeff equivalent to those of us who gave our someone special a gift card to Soma! Are we sure these two are at the plain-looking pen and seashell motif note card set already?
Geared Gertie: And your neighbors are looking to hire a fence company who’ll put a SAFER barrier around your entire yard, but you can’t have everything.
FC: This is the best Alberta separatist cartoon I’ve seen all year.
DtM:
“Why can’t you say nice things about my cooking in front of your father?”
“He thinks he’s training me to be a dounchebro when I hit my tweens. I’m playing along for the birthday and Christmas gifts. “
Be thankful this story is happening in Daddy Daze and not Marvin and we can safely assume no Golden Shower sequence tomorrow
(Hello, first-time commenter after 12 years of reading.)
MW: “You mentioned admiring this Abalone Shell Pen And Sea Motif Blank Notecard Set 4×6 for Kids Adults Weddings Baby Shower School Supplies DIY Craft! I ordered it with my Amazon Prime subscription! Use code MARYWORTH for 10% off your first month!”
@Anonymous: They’re actually basing it on subconscious memories of Daddy Keane’s “special room” where he… corrects people who get out of line on the Keane Kompound.
@The Rambling Otter: I think Beatty has gotten so used to both using Rene as the go-to bad guy and doing everything in his power to avoid focusing on the title character of the strip in favor of roots country bullshit that he’s forgotten not only that there was ever a time where Rene wasn’t written like that, but that he has not really had Rene interact with the Morgans much since he took over. This whole storyline only functions if Rene is some kind of recurring archenemy of the Morgans, but as you say the only interaction he had with them post-villainy is trying to plagiarize Sarah and he hasn’t so much as talked to them since. So the Twins just look like even bigger idiots than they already did. If they want to “avenge” anyone, they should be going after Truck and Mud.
Of course, none of this is helped by the comic still doing it’s hilariously skewed ideas of what constitutes serious crime and weirdly zealous hatred of vaguely-defined scammers. Reminder that the first “villainous” role that Rene had was the aforementioned trying to steal a little kid’s shitty cat drawing and pass it off as his own, which was treated like an assault by the narrative. His threat level has not increased one iota since, even as he tried to commit actual crimes like kidnapping and such (emphasis on tried).
The Twins are somehow even less impressive, if only because they’ve spent this entire arc talking in a circle about whether or not to commit a crime instead of actually doing it and then got shut down by their doddering grandfather just telling them “no” like they’re dogs that messed on the carpet. And what scams we’ve actually seen from them are even more harmless than anything Rene’s done.
DtM: Sometimes you can read a comic and know exactly what he will say about it.
LUANN: “But my brilliant strategery of attending one class a year….!” (and boy is Luann going to be utterly stunned when she is told she has to pass those classes as well.)
LUANN (2): As usually the real comedy associated with this comic come from the the TruFans and their intense level of enabling their womanchild goddess. I love that people were utterly infuriated with goofy Mrs Phelps because the bitch had the nerve to let a little dose of reality penetrate Luann’s Empty-headed Bubble of Oblivious Dreams, as if she were some kind of advisor or counselor or something!
LUANN (3): I also love how Mrs Phelps is suddenly 300% more competent now that she’s specifically interacting with Luann. Forget the education stuff, that’s Luann’s real special ability: making everyone else around her appear smarter in comparison! (It’s why Bernice is still friends with her after all. Hell it probably explains her “popularity” with the 7 year-olds in the camp arc.)
Pluggers don’t know when a word from one of their favorite old-timey phrases is now problematic. And their grandchildren know not to dare trying to inform them.
Luann: “You don’t just waltz into Moony Uni” may be the funniest line ever in this comic strip. Again, this whole conversation only works if Ms. Fogerty is being Jim Carrey levels of sarcastic.
@The Quiet Man: A wonderful film! Poor Metaluna. The Zagon’s finally crushed them and we never even got to see what/who the Zagons were. I guess the writer never knew about plutonium and how it would eased their radiation power problems.
Cal Meecham did indeed shrug off the mind blowing experience as if it were nothing. But then again, he was shown to be a guy who pilots his own jet across the country and upon landing unzips his flight suit to reveal he is wearing a suit under it!
The early sequence where Cal and his helper build an interocitor may have its roots in a story told about the Manhattan Project. Richard Feynman was tasked with running the computational section using the latest electromechanical calculators. Supposedly after the crates full of the bits and pieces arrived he and his helpers just put it all together without waiting for the assembly team to arrive from the factory. That team when they finally arrived were surprise and impressed that Feynman’s team got it put together and remarked that was only time they had ever encountered it.
Breaking Cat News – The McEldowney girl didn’t need it any more.
Frazz – This interaction between Caulfield and Mrs. Olsen will end either in greater understanding and sympathy between the two, or, more likely considering the values and ethics of the strip, Caulfield mocking her behind her back.
FC – There have been a lot of one-time appearances by random toys, but this is the first time there’s an entire glassed-in sunroom that we’ve never seen before and will never see again.
JP – A judge behaving like Randy over the past few years would be a major scandal that would involve a media frenzy. There should be TV crews and reporters camped outside even now. However, instead of a potentially interesting removal from the bench, we readers have endured years of Neddy, Sophie, the raspberry haired brat, Li’l Dunk (briefly before he disappeared), and April.
Rex Morgan – The dimwits of Gasoline Alley are Einsteins compared to these two would-be criminal masterminds. However, the buried lede is that Beatty spent weeks on these morons cooking up grifting and half-assed revenge plots, only to have them ordered to stop by their grandfather.
Mary Worth – Mary and Jeff didn’t get their description of the pen and stationery set from an ad, because no ad creator would write anything so stilted.
Today I learned that a massive eye roll can be done while laughing.
Luann-“Your guidance counselor in high school should have prepared you for this, Luann.”
@The Rambling Otter: Yes, Daddy Daze has indeed been doing a story arc with the car catching fire and Daddy Daze Daddy trying to get it fixed. No, I have no idea why THIS is the comic’s first foray into serialized storytelling.
@The Quiet Man: I’m legit pretty sure that we could get an arc where Gerad finally snaps completely and shoots Gil’s children to death in front of him and Gil would react with about as much emotion as a man who dropped his change at the grocery store checkout.
@Anonymous: Maybe the writer thinks mechanics are some kind of vehicular necromancers who revive demolished cars with dark magic in exchange for a terrible price. Would explain a bit about today’s strip.
@Anonymous: I wonder if HOLTRON is still active and planning school events in Funky-Canon or if there was a tragic storyline where he died of robo-cancer or something.
More seriously, I think this dumbass robot waiter plot is just Batiuk trying clumsily to tie into the epilogue of Funky, which took place in a Jetsons-like future and had things like robot workers handling menial businesses. At the least, its the only real reason I can think of behind the story that isn’t incredibly stupid.
Anyone else having trouble with Comics Kingdom? It’s not letting me comment. I’m signed in. I have an account but nothing else.
@Liam:
My mistake. I mean GoComics.
Dennis’s behaviour is honestly pretty in line with how kids act, they can swing wildly from day to day or even minute to minute between completely uncooperative and very sweet, so I can understand how they arrived at today’s strip.
They gotta stop it though. Does it say “Dennis the Developmentally Nominal Boy” up above your strip there? No it does not, it says “Dennis the Menace” now get back to your big drawing table and don’t come out until you have channeled some of the late Hank Ketchum’s bitter disdain for his undiagnosed ADHD son!
DD: With the price of chickens these days, I doubt that a struggling carnival could pay living wages for geek work. Unless he’s got a great resume, of course.
@Ukulele Ike: Re GT – I couldn’t figure out what that contraption was, and I think you’ve identified it. I like how Beth is polishing it so that it sparkles.
@jassband: Meddlers everywhere are rushing to order. Oh, no, it’s sold out!
Make a cash withdrawal from my credit card? Sell my baby to the circus? Both pretty appalling options really.
@ComicallyChallenged:
IN A WORLD where you need to find an open bank to get cash out of your account, lacking payment apps, ATMs, debit cards, credit card cash advances… (trailer continues for 5 minutes)
@Ukulele Ike: You ain’t kidding. What’s especially weird about it is that Merrill’s art is like the previous artist’s style… if they were drawing with their non-dominant hand. And while blindfolded.
@TheDiva: Considering the catty gossip his parents apparently spew behind their neighbors’ backs (which Dennis then reports to said neighbors when they’re visiting for hopefully comedic effect), he learned from the best when it comes to passive aggressive bullying. Hell, look at his mom’s face here; she’s not insulted, she’s proud of Dennis!
@The Quiet Man: Frankly, I’ve been wondering if either of the Evansii have been to college themselves with how clueless they seem to be about it. Not even in their usual “writing everyone like modern day puritans” sense, but in a “don’t even seem to comprehend how things like graduation or degrees work” sense.
“Ba ba ba..”.”get a job at the freak show, Angus? Great Idea!”
Luann: It seems to me that our protagonist has been participating in her community college’s outreach/extension program, rather than the actual college (where you go to class, get transferable credits, and stuff).
NOTE TO UNCLE LUMPY: My daughter decided to transfer from U of Wyo back to the local community college this semester, because the CC now has an Associates of Engineering program. She’ll take all the hard stuff (19 credits of calc, 10 credits of physics, statics, dynamics, etc.) at home at 1/4 the cost, and its all guaranteed transferable back to Laramie when she decides to go back.
The Familliar Mucus: The Mellonheads have succeeded in enclosing Bil and Thel in a glass cage. How did they manage that?
@GarrisonSkunk:
They tricked them into thinking the bears had escaped their enclosures, and then into thinking the best hiding spot from the bears would be their now-empty enclosures.
@The Quiet Man: That’s actually the Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie. The source movie was “This Island Earth”, which is actually pretty decent by MST3K standards.
@I speak Jive: On JP – Fortunately for Alan and Randy the bar for scandalous behavior has been lowered so much they don’t even rate a mention in the Weekly Shopper. Heck, in today’s political climate they’d probably still be on the bench!
@ectojazzmage: In the same vein, I’m sure one cohort of that strip’s readership would stand up and start clapping like Orson Welles as Charles Foster Kane at the opera if a certain character were shot dead, on panel, several times.
…Too much?
@treetown: I have to disagree there about Luann. That’s Dustin‘s poorly (strawman) rationale for it’s comic’s foundation. It’s clear that The Evans see college (or at least the type Luann attends) as “high school part 2” where dumb kids never have serious assignments about “English Lit or The Classics” (Luann recently took a “class” that in a sane world would just be a workshop she’d do in the off-hours….and still managed to flunk it) Also, as ectojazzmage has frequently pointed out no one in Luann has any type of financial restraints whatsoever. Everyone exist in this privileged upper-middle-class milieu (even when they realistically wouldn’t) where money is never a problem (unless plot contrivance demands it to be just this once.) Which is why no one in her circle was concerned that Luann was just attending classes that cost money with no expected plan or goal or point whatsoever. And Luann in particular is a walking “participation trophy” where she expects to be just handed things (regardless of merit) simply because she showed up like a good girl. She most certainly is going to parachute into a decent position regardless simply because everyone here is supposed to admire her flaky unreliable “spunk.” (Barf!)
@ectojazzmage: On Luann – Maybe Greg will have Gunther meet the World-Famous Cartoonist Evan Flegg and he can talk about how he first failed to break into comics at Image when fresh out of high school and then found fame and fortune as creator of the beloved comic ‘Laurenn’.
“I didn’t need no fancy diplomas! A GED did me just fine. I’m so Speh-shul!”
Blondie,the Neighborhood Bumstead: David Crosby’s kid is excited his Dad is letting him get a Dagwood cut, troubled youth indeed!
I’ve given up reading Luann but the comments made me go and look.
I’ve been saying for over ten (!) years that the Evansii made the worst mistake of their careers by having Inner Beauty move to college from school. Their competence is obviously at – at best – halfway through school, the point at which children are no longer toddlers but sex is not yet a factor. Many strips exploit this specific position and the Evansii should have stuck to it. But – and I’m sure Karen Evans is to blame for this – that decided to move her on to college, on the premise that hilarity would follow. Hilarity, of course, did not follow. So their choices were,
1. Let her act like a genuine college student, including drinking and sex (which would give all the Trufans who think of her as their actual granddaughter simultaneous heart attacks), or
2. Keep her acting like an eleven year old, which in any case is their competence level.
Obviously, they chose the second option. Inner Beauty remains a messy imbecile with the IQ of a pet rock.
For a ten year old that might be charming. It is considerably less so at twenty.
@StripReader: Greetings fellow humans!
@2+2=7:
…You’ve made me see the part where Luann got her job at Weenie World in a new light…
I mean, being in a funk because you need to find a full-time job
to impress your boyfriend with how good you are at adulting, going to the Drive-thru, the clerk taking your order gets into a screaming match with his manager and quits on the spot, asking the manager (who takes over taking your order) if you can have a job, getting hired on the spot… that was intended to be a modern day “Want a job? Just go to the office and ask if they’re hiring!” moment, wasn’t it? And not the “Luann is stupid, takes impulsive decision” moment it came across as?Mary’s Worst: The small cylindrical object in Dr Jeffy’s surprise package for Mary was just a pen, he doesn’t quite get how this dick in a box thing works,does he?
Lockhorns Watch out lady, you could put someone’s eye out with those…
DD: Look, I know that when you’re owed money, it’s better to get it in cash so the banks can’t grab their share of the transaction, but in this day an age, are there really still places like garages that will bill customers hundreds, even thousands of dollars and NOT accept credit cards? You can legally (as long as you warn ’em ahead of time) pass the extra cost off to your customer if they pay by credit card.
BLONDIE: That’s one sick burn Morelli the barber just laid down on ol’ Dag. They could have done without the extra dad in the last panel, and just had Dag break the fourth wall, reacting to the takedown he just got.
H&L: Does Ditto’s friend even have a name, or is she just going to vanish into oblivion as soon as school starts?
JP: So now we’d better just call this strip Parker.
S4th: Why didn’t they just have a story arc showing Ted’s scuffle in the Aldi produce aisle? One reason no one ever saw The Noodle Incident on Calvin & Hobbes was that the strip could do just fine without ever showing it. Ted vs Random Grocery Shopper would be an improvement over what we’ve been getting here.
Sex Organ, V.D.: “Gramps,we have no idea how that hose got in Morgan’s basement window, honest!.”
Not to sadden the mood but it’s my turn to do a RIP dedication. This time for the great Peter Cullen, legendary voice actor best known as the first and longest-running voice actor for Optimus Prime, who passed away this morning. Transformers fans like myself are deep in mourning today, as Cullen was rightly considered an icon for the series and voice acting in general, as well as just an all-around great person.
I don’t have much to say beyond wishing Cullen well in the next life and his family peace, but I’ll also leave a quote here. Cullen said it to a kid with a terminal illness he met in the 80s while working on the original Transformers show, and managed to get permission to use it in the series as a message to that kid from Optimus Prime:
“Hang on to your dreams. The future is built on dreams. Hang on.”
Pluggers “And speaking of coons, there’s a few things you should know about…”
@Ukranazi Stepan: If it helps, I’m entirely sure this strip is just a recycled one from her high school days with the dialogue hastily rewritten to be “modern” (which would explain “Professor” Mrs. Phelps is inexplicably a “counselor” again all of a sudden.)
@Dennis Jimenez: #85:
“pumpkin soup”
My mom made pumpkin soup once out of our Halloween jack-o-lanterns. It’s actually fairly common in Northern Italian cuisine. If you’ve never had it you’re not missing anything. It was featured in the movie “Von Ryan’s Express”. The Italians fed it to the Allied POWs.
Von Ryan’s Express fun fact: The leather bomber jacket worn by Frank Sinatra in the movie was also worn by Bob Crane in “Hogan’s Heroes”.
FC: Long after the melonheads attempt at secession is put down by military force, Billy’s descendants will start a whole noble lost cause myth around it.
FC: The Keane comic franchise must pay pretty well for Thel and Bil to afford a house designed by Mies van der Rohe.
Crank: Mindy should really be making a “computer virus” pun in the last panel, but she’s distracted by thinking “Okay, Pete, so remind me again why, if restaurants have been in trouble ‘ever since Covid’, you decided to buy this dump, which had already failed once, in 2024?”
FC:“They’ll be back by dinnertime,” Thel says confidently, as Billy drills the others in Operation Refrigerator Strike. (Spoiler: Operation Refrigerator Strike will fail, because they’re all idiots.)
JP: “About that … they want you back on the bench, Dad.”
“Randy, that doesn’t make any sense on multiple levels.”
“I know, but hey, the strip’s called Judge Parker.”
“And Intelligent Life‘s got the word ‘intelligent’ in the title, what’s your point?”
MW: “You mentioned admiring this notecard set. And where you’d seen it. And how much it cost. And that you’d probably be running out of your current notecards soon.”
“You remembered!”
@Guillermo el chiclero: When my neice was young, my sister used to make pumpkin soup every Hallowe’en, because she had a picture book called Pumpkin Soup (“The best you’ve ever tasted!”) It was … fine.
A few years ago, I attempted to make an old-fashioned Celtic turnip lantern (which is incredibly hard work; turnips, unlike pumpkins, are solid) and while the lantern didn’t turn out great, I made some pretty decent turnip soup.

“unless plot contrivance demands it to be just this once”
Just like Tara was destitute, forced to live off of friend’s charity, dumpster diving, and petty theft, but now drives a tricked out Jeep CJ, and takes part in expensive extreme sports, including blowing off a $250 non-refundable deposit at the skydiving place.
@ectojazzmage: Sadly, I was never a transformers fan growing up, but I did lovingly know Peter Cullen as Eeyore from Winnie-The-Pooh.
What a sweet, kind man.
Rest in peace Peter, and may your days never be gloomy.
@Banana Jr. 6000: “Soul Taker” wasn’t too bad either. It had a good premise, even if a little bit clunky at times.
Too bad that the creator of the movie has no sense of humor and raised the royalties out of spite so that MST3K can’t re-air it (for the time being) it was a landmark episode too.
MW: “MY PLEASURE!” Dr. Jeff cries enthusiastically, recognizing Mary’s acknowledgement of his gift as the only pleasure he’s likely to feel anytime soon.
@Horace Broon: I absolutely love turnips, boiled turnips are really delicious (in my opinion)
@Guillermo el chiclero: Off panel, Tara has become a high priced escort.
@Banana Jr. 6000: Oh yes, apologies for not being precise. I read what I shared on an MST3k page talking about ‘This Island Earth’ in the context of it being featured in the MST3k movie. I agree that unlike so many of MST3k’s experiments TIE was clearly an ‘A’ picture and it’s one I’d still like to find an opportunity to see on its own.
@The Rambling Otter: Indeed, a decent movie on its own and one of my all-time favorite MST3k episodes. I was so happy to get it on DVD when Shout! finally got clearance to release it.
Important Comics Curmudgeon Pumpkin Information: Pumpkin farmers grow pumpkins specifically for Jack o’ Lantern purposes, and pumpkins for food use. I suppose you CAN eat Jack o’ Lanterns, but the food pumpkins would taste better. Better yet, forget the pumpkin and buy a Kabocha or a Red Kuri squash and eat that.
— Uke, former produce buyer for the Park Slope Food Coop
@Horace Broon: @The Rambling Otter: I don’t think that I’ve ever eaten turnips. I don’t remember eating them while I was growing up, and they’re forbidden in my house now because Mr. Jive loathes them.
Pumpkins are something I’ve never acquired a taste for. Butternut squash, on the other hand. . . butternut squash soup is delicious and is one of my favorites.
@Anonymous:
59. DD: Anon, that reminds me of wisdom I learned — when peeing in a cup at a clinic, ALWAYS pour out and flush any urine in excess of the minimum. Otherwise, one of the assistants will use it for a friend who has dirty specimen
@Horace Broon:
#128. Your tasty turnip soup — did that have a milk base or a broth? I’ve got a turnip.
@ectojazzmage: thanks for explaining, the writer deciding to attempt an arc is interesting (more interesting than the comic itself)
Speaking of foods.
I was talking to my Mom, hypothetically, of what if I made a mushroom pie?
Like chicken pot pie, but with mushrooms. Baked in a sort of gravy broth with maybe a few veggies cooked in like carrots and peas?
I never actually checked to see if such a dish exists, but…
Re: Daddy Daze and also yesterday’s Mother Goose and Grimm, etc., I think we have to conclude that comic strips are a degenerate art form, not in the moral sense but rather that they are and have been declining beyond a point of no return into worthlessness.
DD: Since Daddy is looking increasingly like a schizophrenic street person, I’m at the point of far preferring to think that Angus is a plastic doll he picked up at a yard sale for 60¢.
DtM: Keep in mind that for Alice to be either flattered or insulted, she would have to be listening to her son and not the Carpenters song she currently has playing on her earbuds.
Ziggy-If the fish was living with Wilbur Weston it would end up in the freezer.
@The Rambling Otter: A quick search for mushroom pie showed quite a few recipes, which varied from quiches to ones with a cream based sauce. Your idea of a gravy base sounds delicious. That pie would be a good vegetarian alternative to chicken pie.
@The Rambling Otter: #132: Whenever I make a traditional New England pot roast I always include a large diced turnip.
C-Shaft: Can we skip to the part where Pepper starts expelling fumes and bursts into flame? Crankshaft’s barbecuing is a major element in this strip, so everyone involved must be qualified.
DT: Growing his hair longer has not made Shaggy Rogers any smarter.
GT: Honestly, both of them seem improbably chill about the rival who kidnapped a couple of bartenders so he could go all Maleficent at their wedding.
JP: “You think you could put in for the judge position again? I figure after a few months of you, my absences and headlines might start looking better.”
Lockhorns: Yeah, yeah, red face whatever. The bikini girl just came over to convey a request from the beach as a whole that Leroy button up his shirt.
Luann: Oh, Luann doesn’t know about transfer applications. Never mind, she actually is an idiot. Everyone in this strip is an idiot, so we need something more intense.
MW: Gotta admit, Moy has really nailed how a couple who spend as little time together as possible and are determined to remain virtual strangers would act.
RMMD: Curses, foiled again. Yes, for criminal geniuses of the caliber of the scam twins, having your jailbird uncle send your grandfather Captain Combover to your apartment to issue a few warnings counts as being well and truly foiled.
@ValdVin:
@TheDiva: #40: re-Luann:
“Has she just been wandering into classrooms at random”
In the hands of a competent writer that would actually make for an interesting story. Back in 1966 there was a short-lived sitcom “Hank”, about an orphaned young man raising his kid sister but wanted a better life for himself and her. He couldn’t afford college but desired a higher education so he would sneak into classes and attend the lectures. Since he wasn’t a registered student he wouldn’t earn any credits but he would still absorb and retain the knowledge he learned. The show only lasted one season but the producers did a wrap up final episode where Hank was eventually caught, but because the school administrators were so impressed by his high test scores they gave him a full scholarship.
@Horace Broon: Montoni’s is a failing business while being the one place everyone in at least two towns goes, and was a national franchise in the Winkerbean days. And it’s got happy staffers, including some freak who dresses up in pizza boxes to work for free, so now Mopey Pete needs to bring in a robot because no one wants to work there. It’s Schrodinger’s Stupid Restaurant.
9CL: I’m willing to bet Brooke has had the very conversations he’s portraying this week.
Update on my soda addiction/cleansing:
I had a lot of anxiety today, then I drank a water and I felt much better.
I had known that soda gives me anxiety but now, I decided I want nothing more to do with that.
I am no longer a soda-holic, I don’t want to be addicted to soda-hol anymore.
Also, my Mom chewed me out towards the amount I would drink, that also opened my eyes.
I’m okay now :3
@Artist formerly known as Ben: So, Paul and Angus are in a sense, The Ventriloquist and Scarface from B**man?
Except that would actually be interesting.
DtM: Dennis’s attempt at bedroom eyes is destined to fail. He’s going to have to drug her again.
“Not that I know any, but you’re the best fetus at deflecting a coat hanger, son.”
@The Rambling Otter: I guess we can credit him with being able to pronounce the letter B.
Crankshaft-I’m pretty sure the world outside of Tom’s window hasn’t been operating like this.
@The Rambling Otter:
#151. Mr. Otter: Congrats on beginning your freedom from addiction. Isn’t it called “initial resistance” , that first step in breaking inertia? You give us a great example.
@Activist: Thank you :3
My brother was an inspiration to me as well.
He was a heavy smoker and drinker.
Then he had a serious health scare, he’s fine now, but that scared him off of his addictions completely, went cold turkey and never looked back.
@The Rambling Otter: congrats — did the same as well.
@The Rambling Otter: Congrats,Rambling,good for you, my friend!
@The Rambling Otter:
Speaking of foods.
I was talking to my Mom, hypothetically, of what if I made a mushroom pie?

On an episode.of “M*A*S*H*”,Klinger mentions getting a garlic pie from his Mother. But then in a later episode he claims his Mother never knew he was in Korea, so take that as you will. To be on the safe side,check Lebanese cookbooks, you never know, maybe the writers did some research.
@I speak Jive: there’s an entire glassed-in sunroom that we’ve never seen before and will never see again.

Maybe its transparent aluminum?
@Ukranazi Stepan: LUANN: For a ten year old that might be charming. It is considerably less so at twenty.
The same thing happened with the character of Manny on Modern Family. His unchanging personality turned him from a precocious kid into a creepy, off-putting adult. But back to Luann: it was interesting when the Evanses had her plan a trip to NYC with her boyfriend, because I immediately predicted that the relationship would end before the trip could occur since the Evanses would eventually realize that they’d written themselves into a corner. Sure enough, I was proven right: they broke up and then Luann had her libido turned down to zero so she wouldn’t end up in that situation again.
@2+2=7: LUANN: Remember that time a lady literally waved cash in Luann’s face so she’d act as a mentor to her 14-year-old? And then Luann spent the whole time reminiscing to the kid about all the boys she’d been obsessed with over the years?
Not to get off-topic, but this discussion about Luann (for some reason) reminded me of a scene from that 90’s Donald Duck show, Quack Pack. I barely recall anything from the show aside from this scene and a few select episodes.
Where Donald was late for work, and was telling his boss this whole long ridiculous convoluted story of how it happened.
It started with a kid whose cat was stuck in a tree.
Kid: Mister, can you help get my cat down?
Donald: Beat it!
Kid: I’ll give you 5 buckaroonies!
So Donald attempts to get the cat out of the tree, after failing multiple times he decides to give up.
Narrator: But then Donald is again motivated when he recalls the child’s tearful plea for help!
Kid in Donald’s memory: 5 buckaroonies!
It was probably funnier in my memory than if I rewatched it today. That’s the nice thing about nostalgia, it filters things to my liking.
@GarrisonSkunk:
Crock wishes it was M*A*S*H
@Bryan:
All I remember from Luann’s trip to New York City was that one of the reasons she dumped Quill was because he was all “YOU’RE ALWAYS SO IMPULSIVE, MAKING DECISIONS WITHOUT THINKING! I BET YOU HAVEN’T DONE THE SLIGHTEST PREPARATION FOR THAT WEEK-LONG TRIP TO NEW YORK YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT”, and she went all “NUH-UH! I have the return trip tickets right here, and the hotel booked! I am TOO prepared!”
And then when the trip happened, Luann and Bernice didn’t know what to do, missed the transportation to every landmark they wanted to visit, got kicked out of a nightclub, and spent the rest of the week staring at a wall in their hotel room.
@Bryan:
When was that again? Was that the shy
(possibly neurodivergent)girl she taught that drama class to, the one who had an unrequited crush on a weird delinquent kid who had an unrequited crush on an oblivious Luann (what WERE those characters’ name? And I feel like it’s been years since we last saw them?)@56 treetown: on Dick Tracy: It’s not a thumb drive; it’s a suppository. Widescreen’s gonna shove it into Scooby-Doo-less Shaggy’s ass.
@151 The Rambling Otter: Congratulations! Huzzah!
@159 Al of the Christian Singles Jungle Patrol: You’re worthy of a “Congratulations! Huzzah!” too!
@Anonymous: Gaaaaaaaah!
