So I get an e-mail in my in-box today with the exciting subject line “Margo Goes Topless!” Sadly, it’s just faithful reader Scott Brodeur pointing out that Margo’s been prancing around with her blouse off for the past couple of days, which might have been exciting if she hadn’t wearing some Eisenhower-era undergarment the whole time:

I mean, when we’ve already have sexy Margo scenes like this and this, this week’s offerings aren’t so special.

No, what’s of more interest to me in comics land is that I’ve laughed aloud at Shoe for the past two days!

Shoe, 6/20-21/05

I mean, lookie there! Two Shoes in a row that were funny! Although, strictly speaking, I think the first is funnier than the second. And if you really think about it, the set-up for the second doesn’t really make sense — a quick survey the Perfersser’s desk will reveal that he is not in fact suffering from OCD. And … um …

Oh, what the hell. You know it’s what we all want!

Half-naked and … desperate, you say? Hmmm…

Family Circus, 6/19/05

On Father’s Day, the Family Circus once again trots out the tired old “Billy takes over for a day” gag; what with Billy’s little brother Jeffy actually writing the strip now, the actual point of this exercize in meta is becoming increasingly difficult to parse. However, this strip does have one thing going for it, in that it features the patriarch of the good Family Circus family being spurned by God himself. Who hasn’t wanted to see Bil Keane get the big thumbs down from the Almighty? One wonders if Yahweh’s rejection of the Keane clan is the result or the cause of Dolly’s flirtation with patriotic Wicca.

Mark Trail, 6/18/05

Has Jack Elrod gone soft? I’ve been saving Mark Trail for what I was sure would be the climactic, triumphant punch today, and instead I get more standin’ around and jawin’. Goddamn it, Elrod, I want fisticuffs! Maybe the middle panel is supposed to be symbolic: just as the crafty squirrel escapes from the mighty hawk to chew nuts adorably another day, so Crane avoids the righteous right hook of justice for now. At least we get another couple good looks at Bob’s stupid little orange hat, though, which I just can’t get enough of.
