So the joke, I guess, is that Mary Beth’s cooking is so bad that they’re just throwing it into the pig’s trough, but admit it: for just a brief moment, you assumed that they were fattening up that hog in preparation for that day when any Hootin’ Holler resident becomes an adult, the day they kill and cook their own supper.

I have to say I’m almost in awe of this strip, which is clearly the result of a thought process like, “‘Conscratchulations’? Is that anything? What do these hillbillies congratulate each other over? Checkers, I guess? Done.” Like, you could imagine a setup where Lukey is pleased he’s finally dispatched a hard-to-reach itch, but nope, that would detract from the pure, unadulterated, who-gives-a-shit that today’s strip exudes.

Monday is starting with BIG MARY WORTH NEWS, everybody: it turns out that Professor Ian Cameron will not just give you a good grade even if you don’t do your assignments, no matter how vigorously you wink at him.
